Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review security arrangements for the holy month of Ramazan, finalising a comprehensive province-wide security plan for mosques, imambargahs and other religious places

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review security arrangements for the holy month of Ramazan, finalising a comprehensive province-wide security plan for mosques, imambargahs and other religious places.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, more than 32,000 mosques, over 2,000 imambargahs and more than 500 minority places of worship across the province, including Lahore, will be provided security under the finalised plan. Over 83,000 police officers, personnel and community volunteers will be deployed for the security of mosques, imambargahs and other religious sites during Ramazan, while more than 18,000 police officers, personnel and volunteers will perform security duties at mosques, imambargahs and markets in the provincial capital.

The spokesperson said that 238 SPs, 989 DSPs, 2,862 inspectors, 4,787 sub-inspectors and 7,124 other officials would perform security duties. In addition, 6,844 head constables, 55,843 constables and more than 4,000 lady constables will also be deployed for security duties. Special patrolling squads comprising women police personnel will be assigned to ensure the safety of women visiting markets and bazaars for shopping during Ramazan.

The IGP directed that patrolling around mosques, imambargahs and religious places be further increased during Taraweeh, Iftar and Sehri timings, and instructed strict action against profiteers and elements involved in artificial price hikes during the holy month. He also directed that foolproof security arrangements be ensured at camp sites established for the Ramazan Relief Cards launched on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that strict action should be taken against anyone demanding money from citizens withdrawing cash through the Nigehban Ramazan Card at camp sites.

Abdul Kareem said that Punjab Police would provide full security to all Ramazan and Sahulat Bazaars and also ensure security arrangements at special Iftar dastarkhwans set up during the holy month. He further ordered extraordinary security arrangements at mosques, imambargahs, bus terminals and railway stations during Ramazan and directed RPOs and DPOs to remain present in the field and personally review security measures. To curb criminal and anti-social elements, search, sweep and combing operations along with other preventive measures will continue throughout Ramazan, he added. Lady police personnel will be deployed in markets and bazaars to prevent harassment of women, while special women patrolling squads will remain on duty for their protection. The security arrangements will also be monitored through Safe Cities Authority cameras.

The IGP Punjab also urged religious scholars and spiritual leaders of all schools of thought to promote inter-sect harmony, brotherhood and tolerance during Ramazan.

Additional IG Investigation, Additional IG Special Branch, Additional IG Logistics and Procurement, Additional IG Operations and AIG Operations attended the meeting, while Additional IG South Punjab, CCPO Lahore, RPOs, CPOs and DPOs participated via video link, the spokesperson concluded.
