ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Jun, 2026) Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Ashfaq Ahmed Khalil on Tuesday reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to peace, expressed the confidence that the seminar on Indus Waters Treaty would help promote dialogue and contribute to resolving the issue through peaceful and amicable means.
He was talking to the state television on the sidelines of international seminar titled ‘Indus Waters Treaty: An Instrument of Peace and Regional Stability’, which was organized by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Information Secretary said the importance of water had become even more pronounced after Pakistan's neighbouring India unilaterally announced the suspension of the treaty, making it imperative to organize a seminar to highlight the issue and raise public awareness.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He expressed hope that the seminar would play a significant role in creating awareness about the importance of water and related challenges.
Khalil said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as the government's official communication arm, had consistently brought important national issues to the forefront. He added that the ministry had been entrusted with this responsibility because of its role in communicating matters of national importance to the public.
Describing water as a lifeline in every aspect, he stressed that it should never be used as a weapon but should instead serve as a source of peace and cooperation.
