The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), on Wednesday organized a blood donation drive in Islamabad, bringing together diplomats, students and volunteers in a humanitarian initiative that resulted in the collection of more than 80 blood bags
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jul, 2026) The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, in collaboration with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), on Wednesday organized a blood donation drive in Islamabad, bringing together diplomats, students and volunteers in a humanitarian initiative that resulted in the collection of more than 80 blood bags.
The annual event, held in connection with the upcoming 81st Independence Day of Indonesia and the Embassy's current Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Islamabad (ACI), was conducted under the theme"Share Blood, Share Hope: ASEAN–Pakistan Zindabad.
The ceremony attracted ambassadors and diplomats from ASEAN member states, members of the Indonesian diaspora, Pakistani officials, and a large number of Indonesian and Pakistani students, highlighting the growing role of youth in humanitarian activities.
Among the distinguished participants were the Ambassador of Thailand,Rongvudi Virabutr, and the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam, Pengiran Haji Kamal Bashah bin Pengiran Haji Ahmad.
The event was inaugurated by Indonesian Ambassador ,Chandra W. Sukotjo, accompanied by his spouse,Tamara Sukotjo, who commended the spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Sukotjo described voluntary blood donation as one of the simplest yet most meaningful acts of humanity.
"Voluntary blood donation is a simple yet profound act of kindness. It gives others a second chance at life," he said, urging participants to commemorate important occasions through meaningful service to society.
Drawing on his experience in international peacekeeping missions, the ambassador stressed that blood donation is a lifesaving contribution, noting that countless patients require safe blood transfusions every day.
He said the initiative reflected the shared values of compassion, empathy and humanitarian cooperation between Indonesia, Pakistan and ASEAN member states.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Representing the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Dr. Dania Hassan, highlighted the significance of the blood donation campaign and its continuation through emergency response training scheduled for July 9-10. She said the programme builds upon the Memorandum of Understanding on humanitarian cooperation signed last year between the Indonesian Embassy and PRCS.
This year's campaign witnessed a notable increase in youth participation, with dozens of Indonesian and Pakistani university students volunteering to donate blood in a show of solidarity and social responsibility.
Pakistani student Shakir Malik, who studies Political Science at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), said participation in the event had strengthened his connection with Indonesian friends through activities organized at the Indonesian Corner of the National library of Pakistan.
Indonesian student ,Irham Amin, also from IIUI, described blood donation as an expression of gratitude and a way to serve humanity after recently celebrating his graduation.
PRCS Health Department Programme Manager ,Dr. Wasifa Mutassim, welcomed the enthusiastic participation of young volunteers, observing that blood donated by younger donors generally carries a lower risk of transfusion-transmissible diseases.
At the conclusion of the event, PRCS officials announced that more than 80 blood bags had been successfully collected.
The Embassy of Indonesia and PRCS will continue their humanitarian collaboration with an emergency training programme for ASEAN community members in Islamabad on July 9 and 10th, further strengthening regional cooperation in disaster preparedness and humanitarian response.
