KHANEWAL, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) The District Jail Prisoners Health Council has unanimously decided to ensure special duties of a medical officer and a psychiatrist at the jail hospital to provide better healthcare facilities to inmates.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the council chaired by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Maliha Rasheed in line with the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to improve medical facilities for prisoners.
The meeting reviewed the existing healthcare arrangements at the district jail and discussed measures to further strengthen medical services for inmates.
It was decided that the jail hospital would be further improved and special duties of a medical officer and a psychiatrist would be ensured so that prisoners could receive timely and quality medical treatment.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed said that ensuring the health and welfare of prisoners was a priority of the government and all possible steps were being taken to provide them with the best possible medical facilities.
The meeting was attended by the Superintendent District Jail, Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital and other concerned members of the council.
