IGP Zulfiqar Hameed reviews Muharram security, law & order situation during Abbottabad visit

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Jun, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, on Friday visited Abbottabad and chaired a high-level meeting to review security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, the overall law and order situation, police services, and the performance of Police Facilitation Centers across Hazara Division.

DIG Hazara Nasir Mahmood Satti briefed the meeting on the Muharram security plan, security measures for processions and religious gatherings, monitoring of sensitive locations, intelligence coordination, and traffic management arrangements.

Addressing the meeting, the IGP directed police officers to ensure comprehensive and foolproof security arrangements during Muharram, emphasizing that the protection of Majalis, processions, Imambargahs, and other religious gatherings would remain the top priority. He ordered a fresh security audit of all sensitive and highly sensitive locations and directed the effective use of CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, metal detectors, and modern surveillance equipment along procession routes.

He also instructed authorities to intensify search and sweep operations, intelligence-based actions, and monitoring of social media to prevent the spread of sectarian hatred, rumors, and provocative content. Zulfiqar Hameed directed district police officers to maintain close coordination with peace committees, religious scholars, procession organizers, and district administrations to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram.

The IGP further stressed the need for effective traffic management plans, identification of alternate routes, and timely public awareness measures to minimize inconvenience to citizens.

Reviewing crime control efforts in Hazara Division, he ordered strict legal action against individuals involved in drug trafficking, murder, attempted murder, robbery, theft, and other serious crimes, stating that no leniency would be shown to elements threatening peace and stability. He also directed the formation of special teams to arrest proclaimed offenders and fugitives wanted in serious criminal cases.

During the meeting, Zulfiqar Hameed reviewed the security arrangements for ongoing development projects and foreign experts, particularly Chinese nationals, working in the region. He directed police authorities to further strengthen security measures at residences, offices, project sites, and travel routes of foreign personnel and ensure strict implementation of security SOPs.

The IGP also appreciated the performance of Police Facilitation Centers and directed officials to further improve public service delivery and ensure prompt redressal of citizens' complaints. He reiterated the commitment of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and providing efficient public services across the province.
