Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Tuesday said sustainable industrial and commercial growth was not possible without lasting peace and improved law and order across the province
KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh Javed Alam Odho on Tuesday said sustainable industrial and commercial growth was not possible without lasting peace and improved law and order across the province.
The IGP Sindh expressed these views during his visit to the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he was received by KCCI President Rehan Hanif and other office-bearers.
The ceremony was attended by former KCCI president Zubair Motiwala, Senior Vice President Muhammad Raza, Vice President Muhammad Arif Lakhani, Chief of Citizens-Police Liaison Committee Hafeez Aziz, Chairman of the Law and Order Sub-Committee Muhammad Akram Rana, former KCCI president Muhammad Javed Bilwani, DIGP Traffic Karachi and senior police officials.
The business community paid tribute to the IGP Sindh for his efforts in maintaining law and order, particularly in the riverine “katcha” areas, and congratulated him on receiving the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz. Traders also expressed confidence in the measures taken by the Sindh government and Sindh Police against crime in Karachi.
During the meeting, traders discussed issues relating to traffic management, road accidents, encroachments, drug abuse in educational institutions and other civic concerns. The IGP Sindh also responded to questions raised by business leaders on various matters.
Addressing the gathering, Javed Alam Odho thanked the business community for its continued cooperation with Sindh Police, saying the force had always enjoyed strong coordination with traders and industrialists.
He said the restoration of peace in the province, especially in the katcha areas, and the conferment of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz reflected the collective efforts and sacrifices of the entire Sindh Police force.
The IGP dedicated the award to the martyrs of Sindh Police and said the achievement belonged to the whole department rather than an individual officer.
He said street crime in Karachi had witnessed a noticeable decline and credited the city police, under the leadership of Karachi Police Chief Azad Khan, for taking effective measures against criminal activities.
Referring to “Operation Nijat-e-Mehran”, launched to eliminate dacoits from the katcha areas of interior Sindh, Odho said the campaign had been conducted with full support from the Sindh government, particularly Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Home Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He said highways surrounding the riverine areas had been fully secured to ensure safe travel for the public and the business community.
Javed Alam Odho maintained that there were no longer any “no-go areas” in Sindh and that the writ of the state had been established across the province. He added that the elimination of dacoits from the katcha belt during the past four months reflected the improved performance of Sindh Police.
The IGP further said the Sindh government, in consultation with police authorities, was planning development schemes in the katcha areas, including schools, police check-posts, veterinary hospitals and other public facilities.
Highlighting Karachi’s traffic challenges, he said the Old City area was densely populated and served as a key hub for goods transportation across Pakistan. He suggested that major wholesale markets, including Jodia Bazaar, should eventually be shifted outside the city to help ease traffic congestion.
Javed Alam Odho said legal action was being taken against vehicles without number plates or with tampered registration plates. He added that a campaign was underway to ensure installation of trackers in heavy vehicles, with nearly 70 per cent already fitted.
On narcotics control, the IGP termed drug abuse a greater threat than conventional crime, as it endangered the future of younger generations. He said more than 1,000 drug peddlers had been arrested during the past four months under the Sindh government’s anti-narcotics crackdown.
He urged all segments of society to support government efforts against drugs and noted that two high-powered committees had been formed by the Sindh government to address the issue of encroachments. He also proposed including a representative of the Karachi Chamber in those committees.
At the end of the ceremony, KCCI President Rehan Hanif presented a commemorative shield to IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho.
