IGP reviews law, order situation; tightens security for foreigners

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Feb, 2026) Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem on Thursday chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to review the overall law and order situation, ongoing security arrangements and future measures in detail.

According to police spokesman, the IGP directed that security for foreigners, including Chinese nationals and Sikh pilgrims, be further enhanced, while security at mosques, imambargahs, shrines, sensitive locations, markets and utility bazaars be tightened across the province. He ordered that personnel deployed at inter-provincial border posts, religious sites and sensitive installations remain on high alert during duty. District police, CTD, Special Branch and other intelligence agencies were instructed to ensure effective coordination and comprehensive security measures.

Abdul Kareem also directed strict enforcement of restrictions imposed under Section 144 in light of the recent use of drones in terrorist attacks and ordered supervisory officers to regularly brief personnel deployed at checkpoints and key locations. The IGP further instructed that female police officers deployed at utility bazaars and markets remain vigilant and that suspicious vehicles, rickshaws and loaders at entry and exit points of cities and sensitive places be closely monitored.

Meanwhile, intelligence-based combing and search operations are continuing across the province, including Lahore.

The spokesman said, during the past five days, 250 intelligence-based operations were conducted in which 6,139 individuals were questioned and 28 criminals were taken into custody. More than one kilogram of explosive material, 11 detonators and 20 feet of safety fuse wire were also recovered from miscreants and anti-state elements.

During the same period, 2,545 combing operations were carried out across Punjab, including Lahore, during which over 76,000 individuals were checked and 509 criminals and suspects were arrested. Police also recovered one Kalashnikov, nine rifles, 35 pistols, four guns and a large quantity of ammunition.

IGP Punjab Abdul Kareem directed that intelligence-based search, sweep and combing operations be further enhanced to bring anti-state and criminal elements to justice, adding that the process of door-knocking should continue consistently to curb terrorism and criminal activities. He also ordered strict verification and identification of travelers arriving from other cities and individuals staying in hotels.

The meeting was attended by Additional IG Operations, Additional IG Special Branch, DIG Traffic, AIG Operations, AIG Development and other senior officers, while Additional IG CTD, CCPO Lahore, Additional IG South Punjab, Additional IG CCD, RPOs, CPOs and DPOs participated through video link.
