ICT admin launches 4-day anti-polio drive for 447,614 children

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th May, 2026) A four-day anti-polio campaign has started in the Federal capital, where health teams aim to vaccinate 447,614 children under the age of five between May 18 and May 21.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon, who urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops during the drive.

The district administration said special arrangements have been made across the city to improve access to vaccination services. Temporary camps have been set up at hospitals, schools, and other public places to facilitate families and reach a larger number of children during the campaign.

Officials said polio workers will visit homes in different sectors and rural areas of Islamabad to administer vaccine drops to children. mobile teams have also been deployed to cover areas with limited access and ensure no child is left out of the campaign.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon said the administration is committed to making the campaign successful through coordinated efforts by health departments and field teams.

He added that the participation of citizens is necessary to eliminate polio from the country.

He appealed to parents and guardians to cooperate with polio workers and welcome vaccination teams visiting their homes. He said the vaccine is important for protecting children from the virus and repeated immunisation campaigns are necessary to stop the spread of polio.

According to the district administration, hundreds of health workers, supervisors, and volunteers are taking part in the campaign. Monitoring teams have also been formed to review field performance and address complaints or operational issues during the four-day drive.

Officials said awareness activities are also being carried out to encourage parents to vaccinate their children and remove concerns related to the vaccine. Public announcements and community outreach efforts have been increased in several areas of the capital.
