COLOMBO: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 21st, 2026) The highly anticipated Super 8 match between Pakistan and New Zealand in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 is under threat due to forecasted rain in Colombo.
The both sides are set to face each other on Saturday (today evening) at the R. Premadasa Stadium in what is being billed as a crucial encounter in the second round of the tournament.
The cricket fans have described the fixture as a potential thriller, given the competitive history between the two teams and the high stakes involved in the Super 8 stage.
However, weather conditions could play a decisive role. According to forecasts by AccuWeather, there is a 74 percent chance of rain in Colombo on match day, along with predictions of strong winds.
Several matches in Sri Lanka during the tournament have already faced interruptions due to rain, raising concerns about another possible disruption.
Under regulations set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), no reserve day has been allocated for Super 8 fixtures in this edition of the tournament. As per playing conditions, a minimum of five overs per side is required to constitute a result. If rain prevents even a five-over contest for each team, the match will be abandoned and both teams will be awarded one point each.
With qualification for the knockout stage on the line, both teams will be hoping that the weather improves to allow a full and uninterrupted contest in Colombo.
