Hyundai has officially unveiled the eighth-generation Elantra at the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show. In South Korea, the car is called the Avante.
The new model comes with a completely redesigned look, bigger body size, and a more modern interior. It also features an upgraded hybrid engine for better performance and fuel efficiency.
Along with this, Hyundai has added new safety systems and premium features, making the latest Hyundai Elantra one of the most advanced sedans the company has produced so far.

Exterior Design & Styling
The new Elantra is based on Hyundai’s “Art of Steel” design language. It comes with sharper and more defined body lines, a split LED headlight design, and T-shaped daytime running lights. The front bumper is also more muscular in shape. In addition, the sedan features 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, flush-fitting door handles, and a built-in ducktail-style rear spoiler. All these changes make the Elantra look much more aggressive compared to the previous model.
Bigger Dimensions & Road Presence
Hyundai has increased the overall size of the new Hyundai Elantra to improve cabin space. The sedan now measures 4,765 mm in length and 1,855 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Compared to the previous model, it is 55 mm longer and 30 mm wider. Because of these changes, passengers are expected to get more interior room, and the car also has a stronger and more noticeable presence on the road.
Interior & Premium Features
Hyundai has upgraded the cabin of the new Hyundai Elantra with its latest Pleos Connect interface. The interior now includes a 14.6-inch touchscreen along with a slim digital instrument cluster. Hyundai has also kept physical buttons for climate control and media functions to make it easier to use. Other features include dual wireless charging pads, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, powered front seats, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, and a 360-degree camera system.
Safety & Advanced Technology
Hyundai has equipped the new Hyundai Elantra with 10 airbags and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS safety suite. New features include Navigation-Based Smart Cruise Control 2 and Pedal Misuse Safety Assist. The sedan also offers Auto Park Assist, an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold, a built-in dashcam, and digital key functionality. For added convenience, it comes with 100W USB charging ports.
Engine, Hybrid System & Performance
Hyundai has kept a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the new Hyundai Elantra, which produces 149 HP and is paired with a CVT transmission. At the same time, the updated 1.6-litre hybrid version now delivers 157 HP, which is 16 HP more than before. Hyundai has also upgraded the battery, electric motor, and transmission system. New technologies like Smart Regenerative Braking and Hybrid Hierarchical Predictive Control help improve fuel efficiency and overall driving performance.
Verdict
Hyundai’s eighth-generation Hyundai Elantra marks a major upgrade with its bold exterior design, more premium interior, smarter hybrid system, and improved safety features. With its increased size and more modern cabin, the model becomes significantly more competitive in its segment than before. If Hyundai brings the Elantra back to India, it could appeal strongly to buyers looking for a premium midsize sedan option.
