HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jul, 2026) Acting on the directives of the superior judiciary, the Hyderabad police has reclaimed government land belonging to the police department by taking possession of around 70 shops, 20 warehouses and 11 rooms located in Chhoti Ghitti within the jurisdiction of city police station.
According to a police spokesperson, the government land had previously been rented out by the police department. In compliance with court orders, the police have now taken back possession of the property and sealed all shops, warehouses and other structures built on the land.
The spokesperson told that in its judgment dated April 15, 2019, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed that government land allocated to the police department be used exclusively for policing purposes. Subsequently, on September 28, 2022, the apex court sought an implementation report, and on January 11, 2023, referred the matter to the Sindh High Court for further proceedings and implementation.

In accordance with the judicial orders, such properties are being vacated and restored for official policing purposes.
Hyderabad Police issued final notices to all tenants on June 16, 2026. After the notice period expired, the police carried out the operation, sealed approximately 70 shops, 20 warehouses and 11 rooms in Chhoti Ghitti, and regained possession of the government property.
