Husband held for torturing wife over dower dispute

MUZAFFARGARH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) Police have arrested a man for allegedly torturing his wife after she refused to return her dower (mahr),officials said,here on Saturday.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim's father,the accused,Muhammad Husnain demanded that his wife,Iqra Bibi,return her dower, comprising two tolas of gold.However,she allegedly refused to comply with his demand.

The complainant stated that the dispute escalated into violence,during which the suspect allegedly assaulted his wife and recorded a video of the abuse.

He was also accused of filling his canvas shoes with water and forcing the victim to drink from them.

The FIR further alleged that the accused was assisted by his friend,identified as Ejaz along with an unidentified accomplice during the assault.

The woman later managed to leave the house and informed her father about the incident,who subsequently approached the police and lodged a complaint.

Police said the accused was arrested following a preliminary investigation that reportedly substantiated the victim's allegations.

Further investigation was underway.
