MANSEHRA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) Hazara University Mansehra Monday has launched a landmark scientific research initiative under its Department of Botany, marking a significant achievement in Pakistan’s academic and botanical research sector.
The project titled “Pteridophytic Flora of Pakistan – Volume 226” has been initiated by Associate Professor Dr. Aalia Gul, who also serves as Director Herbarium, in collaboration with renowned researcher Professor Dr. Jan Alam. The project focuses on the detailed scientific survey, identification, and classification of non-flowering and non-seed-bearing plants of Pakistan, including various species of ferns and lycophytes.
Officials said the initiative aims to prepare a comprehensive and standardized record of Pakistan’s pteridophytic flora, which will become an important addition to the country’s botanical documentation and scientific database. The project is expected to support biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable use of natural resources.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The formal inauguration of the project was carried out by eminent botanist and Editor-in-Chief of the Pakistan Journal of Botany, Professor Emeritus Dr. Muhammad Qaiser, during a three-day international training workshop and conference held at Hazara University Mansehra.
With this development, Hazara University has become the second institution in Pakistan after the University of Karachi to contribute to the national Flora of Pakistan project, a key scientific effort aimed at documenting the country’s plant biodiversity.
Vice Chancellor Hazara University, Professor Dr. Ikramullah Khan, congratulated Dr. Aalia Gul on securing the prestigious research project and termed it a milestone for the Department of Botany and the Herbarium. He said the initiative would further strengthen research activities at the university and enhance its contribution to national scientific development.
