Hot and dry weather to prevail across country; rain likely in upper regions on Wednesday

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of the country on Wednesday, with chances of rain-windstorm and thunderstorms at isolated places in upper regions

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Apr, 2026) The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast mainly hot and dry weather across most parts of the country on Wednesday, with chances of rain-windstorm and thunderstorms at isolated places in upper regions.

According to the forecast, partly cloudy weather with isolated rain-windstorm/thunderstorm is expected in Islamabad and its surroundings, with a 30 percent probability.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, partly cloudy conditions are likely in upper districts, while isolated rain-windstorm/thunderstorm is expected in areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Balakot, Kurram, Waziristan and Haripur. The rest of the province is expected to remain hot and dry.

In Punjab, partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts, with chances of rain-windstorm/thunderstorm at isolated places including Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Lahore. Other areas are likely to experience hot and dry conditions.

Sindh will continue to experience hot and dry weather, with dust-raising and gusty winds expected in central and southern districts during the afternoon.

Similarly, Balochistan is expected to remain hot and dry in most districts.

Cloudy weather with isolated rain-windstorm/thunderstorm is also forecast for Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

During the past 24 hours, isolated rain-windstorm/thunderstorm occurred in parts of Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northern Balochistan, Barkhan and Sukkur, while hot and dry weather prevailed elsewhere.

The notable rainfall recorded includes 21 mm in Dera Ghazi Khan and 19 mm in Gujranwala.

The highest maximum temperatures recorded were 46C in Jiwani, 44C in Mohenjo Daro and 43C in Larkana, indicating persistent heatwave conditions in southern parts of the country.

The PMD advised the public to take precautionary measures against heat and possible gusty winds in affected areas.
