Hina Butt takes notice of 'torture' of woman in Jhelum

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Feb, 2026) Chairperson Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) Hina Parvez Butt has taken notice of the alleged severe torture of a woman in Jhelum and sought a detailed report from the district police officer (DPO) Jhelum.

According to details, a distressing incident of alleged torture on a daughter-in-law occurred in Khai Kallia area of Police Station Chotala, Jhelum, where the woman, identified as Lubna Begum, was allegedly subjected to violence over accusations of keeping a mobile phone. She was shifted to DHQ Hospital Jhelum in critical condition where she is currently under treatment.

Police said that a case (FIR No. 156/26) had been registered and multiple suspects had been nominated. Initial reports suggested that the victim was allegedly subjected to physical and psychological abuse on baseless allegations, involving her husband and other in-laws. She was reportedly beaten with various objects during the assault, causing severe injuries that necessitated her immediate transfer to hospital.

Taking immediate notice of the incident, Hina Parvez directed the DPO Jhelum to ensure strict legal action against the accused in accordance with the law.

Condemning the incident, the chairperson said that violence against women was unacceptable under any circumstances and that action would be taken against such elements under a zero-tolerance policy.

Talking to the media, she said that ensuring protection of women was a top priority of the government in line with the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, adding that no injustice against any woman would be tolerated. She further urged all segments of society to play their role in eliminating violence against women to prevent such tragic incidents and ensure justice for victims, in line with the vision of a safer Punjab for women.
