Highway Patrol Police arrest 409 proclaimed offenders, recover 164 stolen vehicles

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) The Punjab Highway Patrol Police (PHP) on Thursday said they had arrested 409 proclaimed offenders and court absconders and recovered 164 stolen vehicles during province-wide operations, including in Rawalpindi, over the past month.

According to a police spokesman, the PHP checked 4.6 million individuals on highways through the e-Police Post application and apprehended 409 proclaimed offenders and absconders during the drive.

The spokesman said millions of vehicles were inspected across the province, leading to the recovery of 164 stolen vehicles and motorcycles.

Legal action was taken against 17,987 overloaded vehicles for axle-load violations to ensure road safety, he added.

The PHP also proceeded against 27,100 vehicles emitting excessive smoke and contributing to smog and air pollution, while action was taken against 831 vehicles for the illegal use of gas cylinders.

To facilitate citizens, 85,744 driving licences were issued during the period, the spokesman said, adding that 39 missing children were reunited with their parents.

He said 1,141 temporary and permanent encroachments were removed from highways to improve traffic flow, while 20,460 commuters were provided assistance and guidance.

In road accidents, 185 injured passengers were administered first aid, and 154 critically injured persons were shifted to hospitals.

At Police Khidmat Markaz, 32,560 citizens were provided various policing services.

The spokesman further said 15 cases were registered over the illegal use of weapons, with 15 pistols and hundreds of bullets recovered from the accused. In separate operations against drug dealers, 331 litres of liquor and 24 grams of charas were seized.
