HEC Chairman visits Sukkur IBA University, lauds role in innovation, inclusivity

SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar visited Sukkur IBA University on Wednesday where he paid tribute at the grave of the university’s founder, the late Prof. Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui, along with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asif Ahmed Shaikh and senior officials.

In a formal session, VC Dr. Asif Ahmed Shaikh welcomed the HEC chairman and highlighted the university’s growth from modest beginnings into a multi-campus institution built on merit, transparency, and inclusivity. He said the university offers fully funded scholarships to deserving students nationwide and has secured national rankings, international accreditations, and made strides in community development and digital innovation.

Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Akhtar appreciated Sukkur IBA’s contributions to quality education and innovation, noting its role in attracting talent from across Pakistan.

He stressed aligning academic programs with national priorities, including emerging technologies, research, and industry linkages, and called for enhanced international collaboration.

“I can say that whatever technology-related and socio-economic issues Pakistan is facing, our institutions have the capacity to provide solutions,” the HEC chairman said, reaffirming HEC’s support for universities to achieve excellence.

During the visit, Dr. Akhtar toured the CRAIB Lab and FAB Lab, where he was briefed on research and student-led innovations. A tree plantation ceremony was also held on campus to mark Earth Day.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the HEC chairman, followed by a group photo with university leadership and a gala dinner in his honour.
