ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Mild heatwave conditions are expected to develop in the southern parts of the country from April 29 to May 03 as temperatures continue to remain above normal, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The Met Office said prevailing global climate indicators, including ENSO and IOD, are currently in neutral phases. However, there is a 61 percent likelihood that El Nino conditions may emerge during the May–July period, which could influence regional weather patterns.

Climatological data shows that May and June are typically the hottest months in Pakistan, particularly in south Punjab, upper Sindh, and southern and eastern Balochistan.

Temperatures in these regions often rise to extreme levels, occasionally reaching up to 52C during intense heatwave episodes, while the normal range remains between 43C and 45C.

According to recent observations, temperatures in these heat-prone areas are currently 02 to 4C above normal.

The Met Office has forecast that the ongoing warming trend may intensify slightly in the coming days, particularly in southern regions.

Meanwhile, upper parts of the country are expected to experience relatively cooler conditions due to the influence of westerly weather systems.

These systems are likely to affect the region from the night of April 27 to April 29, and again from May 03 to May 05, bringing a temperature drop of 02 to 04C during these periods.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department said it is continuously monitoring the situation and will issue updates if heatwave conditions intensify further.

The public has been advised to stay updated through official weather channels, including the PMD website and mobile application.
