Human body is a complex system that requires a balanced intake of vitamins and minerals for proper functioning. Among these essential nutrients, zinc plays a vital role. Although it may seem like a minor element, it is crucial for several fundamental biological processes.

Health experts say that a deficiency of zinc can weaken the immune system and lead to various physical and mental health issues.

Zinc is essential for wound healing, maintaining taste and smell, keeping the skin healthy, regulating hormones, and supporting cell growth. A shortage of zinc can therefore affect the entire body.

The main causes of zinc deficiency include an unbalanced diet, excessive reliance on vegetables, digestive disorders, aging, alcohol consumption, and certain medications. A weakened immune system can also worsen the deficiency.

Natural sources of zinc include meat, liver, fish, chicken, egg yolk, lentils, grains, dry fruits, pumpkin seeds, and watermelon seeds.

According to experts, men should consume around 12 to 15 mg of zinc daily, while women should take 10 to 12 mg. The requirement becomes even more important for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

However, specialists also warn that excessive intake of zinc can be harmful. Therefore, a balanced diet and proper medical advice are essential for maintaining good health.
