HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Feb, 2026) Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday said that February 27 remains a historic day for Pakistan, recalling that on this day in 2019, the Pakistan Armed Forces captured Indian pilot Abhinandan, and that on February 27, 2026, India’s proxies once again faced a historic defeat.
Speaking at a ceremony for the distribution of health cards among journalists at the Hyderabad Press Club, he said the day reminds the nation of how the Pakistan Air Force gave a befitting response in 2019 by capturing the Indian pilot.
He said that despite the prevailing war-like situation, the nation remains calm because Pakistan’s armed forces were thwarting the enemy’s designs. “Due to the armed forces, citizens continue their daily lives as usual, and the entire nation salutes its military,” he added.
The senior minister, who also holds the portfolios of information, transport and mass transit, said attempts were being made to push Pakistan into another war, but the enemy had faced failure both historically and diplomatically. He remarked that India lacks the courage for direct confrontation and was instead carrying out activities through proxies.
Memon further said that terrorism in Pakistan was being sponsored at times under the cover of Afghan Taliban and at other times through elements like the BLA. He said Pakistan had responded strongly to every act of aggression and that the enemy and its proxies had once again faced embarrassment.
He maintained that Pakistan believes in peace and dialogue but warned that this policy should not be mistaken for weakness. “If anyone casts an evil eye on Pakistan, they will receive a strong response,” he said.
Referring to regional issues, he said Pakistan had hosted Afghan citizens as brothers and shared its resources but, in return, faced challenges including terrorism, weapons and narcotics. He criticized the Afghan Taliban regime for its ingratitude and for failing to restrain anti-Pakistan elements. He emphasized that the entire nation stands united against terrorism and that this is a time for national unity rather than political differences.
While talking about media freedom, Memon said the Pakistan Peoples Party had always respected the media, accepted criticism as constructive and never imposed restrictions. He assured that further measures would be taken for the welfare of the journalist community.
He said the Sindh government had established modern public hospitals across the province, providing free treatment without discrimination. Recalling his own medical emergency, he said he was treated at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in Hyderabad after suffering a heart attack three years ago. He noted that major medical facilities, including organ transplants, were freely available in Karachi and were also utilized by patients from other provinces. According to an official handout, a total of 512 health insurance cards were distributed at the ceremony.
President Hyderabad Press Club Junaid Khanazada, Divisional Commissioner Fayyaz Hussain Abbasi, DIG Tarique Razaque Dharejo, Deputy Commissioner Zain-ul-Abideen Memon, SSP Shahzeb Chachar, Director Information Shahzad Shaikh and other officials were also present on the occasion.
