Hazara division marks Pakistan Day with tree plantation drive

ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Mar, 2026) All eight districts of Hazara region on Monday marked Pakistan Day on March 23 with the launch of the “Ehsas-e-Shajarkari” campaign alongside flag hoisting ceremonies, aiming to promote environmental sustainability and national unity.

In line with the directives of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi, a historic tree plantation campaign was initiated with a target to plant one million saplings across the province in a single day. The initiative coincided with Pakistan Day and Eid celebrations, reflecting the government’s commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.

In Abbottabad, Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram formally inaugurated the campaign by planting fruit-bearing saplings at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in collaboration with the Forest Department. The campaign aims to address environmental challenges, particularly climate change, while promoting a clean and green province.

Officials stated that the initiative would continue in phases, with a plan already in place to plant 1.4 million saplings on August 14, further strengthening efforts to expand green cover across the province.

Meanwhile, in Mansehra, a dignified and enthusiastic flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Office to mark Pakistan Day.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem and hoisting of the national flag.

As part of the ongoing plantation campaign, fruit-bearing saplings were also planted at the venue, symbolizing a commitment to environmental protection and a better future for upcoming generations. The event concluded with special prayers for the country’s peace, stability, and prosperity.

In Haripur, Deputy Commissioner Haripur and Assistant Commissioner Khanpur participated in the plantation drive at PAF-IAST University, Mang, where thousands of saplings are being planted under the campaign. Officials highlighted that more than 10,000 plants are being planted in the area to make it green and environmentally sustainable.

They emphasized that tree plantation is vital not only for ecological balance but also for ensuring a secure future for coming generations. Authorities further stressed the importance of collective participation, noting that government institutions, educational organizations, civil society, and communities are all playing an active role in making the campaign a success.
