Haripur wildlife division celebrates World Wildlife Day

ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Mar, 2026) The Haripur Wildlife Division on Tuesday organized a seminar to mark World Wildlife Day here at the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Management, University of Haripur.

This year the theme of the World Wildlife Day is, “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihoods.”

Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Haripur Wildlife Division, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO), and other faculty members addressed participants, highlighting the importance of wildlife conservation, the ecological and economic significance of medicinal plants, and major threats to biodiversity such as habitat loss, illegal hunting, climate change, and over exploitation.

The speakers stressed the need for sustainable financing in wildlife conservation, investment in research, community engagement, and habitat protection. The seminar also emphasized the role of medicinal plants in healthcare and their contribution to local livelihoods.

An awareness walk was conducted on the university campus to engage students in wildlife protection and promote natural resource conservation. In parallel, World Wildlife Day was observed at Government Higher Secondary school Haripur, where students received lectures on the importance of wildlife, conservation responsibilities, and the role of youth in safeguarding natural heritage.

The seminar was attended by the department chairman, faculty members, and students.

Following the seminar, a meeting at the Wildlife Ecology Lab highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between the Wildlife Department and academia. Haripur Wildlife Division assured full support to research students, committing to facilitate academic research, data sharing, and joint conservation initiatives in the division.
