Hari Welfare Association holds social evening, Lok Katcheri in Mirpurkhas to promote climate awareness

MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) Hari Welfare Association organized a Social Evening and Lok Katcheri in Mirpurkhas under the Aawaz II Programme implemented by CARE Pakistan with support from UK International Development.

The event was aimed at promoting climate awareness, social harmony and community empowerment through dialogue between local communities, civil society and government representatives. A large number of people, including social activists, villagers, members of civil society and government officials attended the programme.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Subhash Chander appreciated the initiative and said that the traditional practice of Lok Katcheri plays an important role in bringing communities together to discuss local issues and find collective solutions. He stressed the need to revive such traditions at village level to strengthen unity, cooperation and public participation.

Highlighting the growing challenges of climate change, he said that climate change is a global issue that requires immediate and collective action.

He welcomed the inclusion of climate-related discussions in the Lok Katcheri and emphasized the importance of creating awareness regarding Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and preparedness measures to make villages more climate-resilient.

He also reaffirmed the Sindh government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and promoting resilience and development initiatives across the province.

The event provided an opportunity for direct interaction between the public and government representatives, where community members openly shared concerns related to climate change, women’s rights, social protection and local development.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Hari Welfare Association reiterated their commitment to continuing inclusive community-based initiatives for social cohesion, climate resilience and sustainable development in Sindh.
