ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jun, 2026) Under mounting allegations of systematic torture in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, India is facing growing international calls to hold New Delhi accountable for alleged grave human rights violations.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Kashmiri activists alleged that thousands of residents in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have endured physical, mental and psychological torture over decades of Indian rule, describing the practice as a persistent feature of the territory's security environment.
They claimed torture has been used as an instrument of fear and intimidation to suppress dissent and silence demands for the Kashmiri people's UN-recognized right to self-determination, alleging that such practices have created a climate of repression across the region.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The activists further alleged that interrogation and detention centres operated by Indian forces have become symbols of repression, where many Kashmiris have reportedly suffered death, permanent disability and lasting psychological trauma.
Calling for international intervention, they urged the United Nations and global human rights organizations to conduct independent investigations into the alleged widespread use of torture and ensure accountability for those responsible for what they described as grave human rights violations.
The activists reiterated that lasting peace in the region would remain elusive without a just resolution of the Kashmir dispute in line with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nations resolutions.
