Govt to support NTUF-KOICA partnership to strengthen textile innovation, research: Rana Ihsaan

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Jun, 2026) Coordinator to Prime Minister (PM) for Trade Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan said on Tuesday

the government was committed to supporting international academic and technological

partnerships.

He also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the National

Textile University Faisalabad (NTUF) and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA)

to boost innovation, research and capacity-building in Pakistan’s textile sector.

The PM's Coordinator expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation from

National Textile University Faisalabad led by its Vice Chancellor/Rector Prof Dr. Rashid

Masood.

The delegation also included NTUF Registrar Salman Saif, Project Coordinator Dr. Qamar

Khan and representatives of Korea International Cooperation Agency.

The meeting reviewed the ongoing cooperation between NTUF and KOICA and discussed

future avenues for collaboration aimed at enhancing educational excellence, technological

advancement and industrial competitiveness.

During the briefing, the NTUF delegation apprised Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan of the current

status of projects being implemented with KOICA’s support and highlighted progress made

in various academic and technical initiatives.

The participants also exchanged views on strategies to further strengthen institutional

cooperation and maximize the benefits of international partnerships.

Discussions focused on KOICA-supported projects designed to enhance the capacity

of Pakistan’s textile sector through technical and technological assistance, promotion

of applied research and development of modern academic and industrial linkages.

The meeting also examined several pending issues being faced by the university and

explored measures for their timely resolution.

Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan assured the delegation that the government would extent full

support in promoting international collaboration in the education and textile sectors,

noting that such partnerships play a vital role in developing a skilled workforce and

accelerating technological progress.

He stressed the need for prompt resolution of outstanding matters to ensure uninterrupted

implementation of development projects and to enable educational institutions to contribute

more effectively to national economic growth.

The participants agreed to further strengthen coordination mechanisms, expand areas

of mutual cooperation and continue joint efforts for addressing pending issues through

constructive engagement.

They expressed confidence that enhanced collaboration between NTUF and KOICA

would help advance research, innovation and human resource development in Pakistan’s

textile industry.
