QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Jul, 2026) Secretary Women Development Saira Atta on Monday said that incumbent government was taking steps in collaboration with relevant institutions to protect the rights of women, and their empowerment.
She expressed these views while addressing at an inaugural ceremony of the “Provincial Media Fellowship Program” organized by the Department of Women Development, Government of Balochistan, in collaboration with Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS), Strengthening Participatory Organization (SPO) and the United Nations agency UNFPA, at the Pink Hall of BUITEMS.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Women Development, Saira Atta said that media was an effective tool for bringing positive change in the society, responsible reporting of sensitive issues related to gender-based violence (GBV), child marriage and women and children was the need of the hour.
She said that the Balochistan government was taking practical steps in collaboration with all relevant institutions to protect the rights of women, empower them and create a safe society.
She said media fellowship program would enhance the professional skills of journalists, which could enable them to play an effective role in raising public awareness through factual, balanced and sensitive reporting.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor, BUITEMS, Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez said that universities were not limited to education alone but also play a key role in social betterment and national development. He said that BUITEMS would continue to provide all possible support to equip young journalists and media professionals with modern research, training and practical skills.
He said that responsible media reporting not only promoted positive thinking in society but also played an important role in protecting the rights of women and children, social justice and achieving sustainable development goals.
He termed this joint initiative as an important milestone towards further improving the quality of journalism in Balochistan, he informed the participants of the program that important departments of BS Forensic Sciences and BS Public Health had also been started in BUITEMS.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director Public Relations Saeed Shahwani informed the participants in detail about the role of media.
Government officials, media representatives, teachers, students and people from different walks of life participated in the ceremony in large numbers.
At the end, commemorative shields were distributed among the participants.
