ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Monday extended an olive branch to the opposition, saying the government’s doors remained open round the clock for negotiations on all political and national issues.
Winding up a debate on a motion moved by Senators Syed Ali Zafar and Mashal Azam regarding the increasing trend of violations of basic rights of the public at large, particularly women, he said the opposition should come forward for dialogue.
He said cases related to the May 9 incidents and attacks on state institutions were being dealt with under the constitutional and legal framework, adding that Parliament had no authority to overturn court verdicts.
Any objections to convictions should be pursued through the legal appeal process, he added.
He rejected allegations of human rights violations against the jailed founder of PTI and his spouse, saying jail rules did not require family members to be present during medical examinations of prisoners.
He said that the PTI founder was being provided with the best available medical facilities in the country and said repeated claims of mistreatment were based on “generalized statements.”
Rana Sanaullah said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had repeatedly invited the opposition for talks on the economy and political stability, adding that committees had also been formed for negotiations, but the process stalled after conditions were imposed by the opposition.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar told the House that concerns regarding prison conditions of the PTI founder had already been examined through judicial and legal forums, including reports submitted before courts and international parliamentary bodies.
He said a detailed inspection report covered the PTI founder’s living conditions, medical care, exercise routine, diet, books and newspapers being provided in jail.
The minister said the government had also presented its position before international parliamentary forums to address concerns regarding prison facilities and human rights.
Azam Nazeer Tarar said prison reforms should not remain limited to a few high-profile individuals, stressing that conditions in jails across the country needed broader improvement.
He said the government had introduced several reforms and legal protections, particularly for women and children, during its tenure.
Later, the House was adjourned due to a lack of quorum and will meet again on Wednesday at 11:00 am.
