ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th May, 2026) Minister for National food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain on Tuesday reaffirmed full support of the government including transport subsidy and value addition strategy to enhance mango exports from the country.

The minister chaired a high-level consultative meeting with leading mango exporters to review export performance, address emerging global challenges, and devise a comprehensive strategy to enhance Pakistan’s mango exports in international markets.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry, representatives of export associations, and stakeholders from the horticulture and logistics sectors.

The discussion was focused on the impact of regional geopolitical developments, rising transportation costs, and shifting global trade routes on Pakistan’s mango export sector.

During the meeting, exporters highlighted that Pakistan traditionally exported nearly 80 percent of its mango produce to Afghanistan and Gulf countries, while around 20 percent was exported to European and other international markets.

However, the current closure of the Afghanistan border and instability in parts of the middle East have significantly disrupted established trade routes.

Participants also noted that rising fuel prices and increased freight charges have created serious logistical challenges, making exports more expensive and less competitive in international markets.

Tanveer Hussain, emphasized that Pakistan’s mango sector was a high-value agricultural asset and must be protected and strengthened through coordinated government and private sector efforts.

He stated that the government was fully aware of the challenges faced by exporters and was committed to providing practical and immediate relief measures, including a possible subsidy on transport and freight costs to reduce export burden and maintain competitiveness in global markets.

The minister urged exporters to focus on value addition, processing, branding, and packaging improvements, stating that Pakistan must move beyond bulk exports and develop a strong identity for premium-quality mango products such as pulp, puree, dried mango, and ready-to-eat packaged forms.

He further stressed the need to diversify export destinations beyond traditional markets and explore opportunities in East Asia, Central Asia, and high-value European markets through improved certification, quality standards, and marketing strategies.

Tanveer assured exporters that the government was working on a coordinated export facilitation framework involving the Ministry of Commerce, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), and relevant provincial departments to streamline logistics, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance cold chain infrastructure.

He also highlighted that agricultural exports were a key pillar of Pakistan’s economic stability and foreign exchange earnings, and mango exports, being one of the country’s most recognized fruits globally, must be leveraged strategically.

The minister directed officials to prepare a detailed policy proposal covering freight subsidy options, export financing support, and infrastructure improvements for horticulture exports, particularly mangoes.

He reaffirmed that the government stood firmly with exporters during this challenging phase and would ensure all possible facilitation to sustain and expand Pakistan’s mango exports in global markets.
