LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jul, 2026) Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan chaired the 19th meeting of the Senate of King Edward Medical University (KEMU) as the Senate unanimously approved key policy decisions, including the budget for the financial year 2026-27.
Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayaz and faculty members welcomed the Governor who also inaugurated modern post-mortem rooms and souvenir shop at King Edward Medical University.
The Governor Punjab also visited various medical departments of the university.
Speaking on the occasion, Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that providing medical facilities to the people is the top priority of the government.
He said that implementation of merit in educational institutions is the top priority. He said that KEMU has always played a key role in the development and research of medical education. He said that the universities should focus on research and development.
He said that awareness of new technology and modern trends in the field of medicine is very important. The Governor of Punjab said that all possible support will be provided for the development of the prestigious medical university and the promotion of modern medical education.

The Governor emphasized that students must embrace technology and entrepreneurship to move forward. He said that the institution is responsible for ensuring a clean and healthy environment for students as well as upgradation of hostels.
Pro-Chancellor Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister of Punjab, historic reforms are underway in the health sector, while KEMU is achieving significant achievements in medical education, research and innovation.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayaz told the Senate that King Edward Medical University’s prominent position in the QS World Rankings, obtaining a score of 93.7 from HEC, matching of 155 graduates in US residency programmes, and several projects including the biobank, genome sequencing lab, are clear evidence of the university’s global leadership in the field of medicine.
