Governor Kundi visits Hamza Baba camp, directs enhanced facilities for returning Afghan refugees

KHYBER, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Monday visited the Hamza Baba camp established for Afghan refugees in Landi Kotal, district Khyber, where he reviewed arrangements and facilities being provided to those returning to Afghanistan.

During the visit, the Governor met Afghan nationals heading back to their country and listened to their concerns. He also inspected facilitation counters set up by the Afghan Commissionerate, NADRA, FIA and the Pakistan Red Crescent Society at the camp.

The Governor directed the staff of the Red Crescent in merged districts to further enhance medical assistance, provision of hygiene kits and other essential services for the returning refugees.

Officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Khyber, NADRA, FIA and Afghan Commissionerate authorities, briefed the Governor in detail about facilities being extended at the Hamza Baba camp.

He was informed that after completion of all legal formalities, Afghan refugees were being sent to the Torkham border via the camp and Transit Point Phase-III.

The briefing highlighted that food, shelter and other basic necessities were being provided at the camp, while 22 NADRA registration counters had been established at the facility. It was further shared that Afghan refugees from Peshawar, as well as Sindh, Punjab and Azad Kashmir had gathered at the camp for repatriation through the Torkham border.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi emphasized that no compromise should be made on the dignity and respect of Afghan families returning from Pakistan. He announced that a dispensary would also be set up at the camp to facilitate outgoing refugees.

He said Pakistan, particularly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had hosted Afghan brethren for a long time and appreciated the hospitality extended by the local residents of Landi Kotal to the returning refugees.

The Governor directed all relevant institutions to ensure maximum facilitation and support for the dignified repatriation of Afghan nationals.

Deputy Commissioner Khyber Capt (R) Bilal Rao, Commissioner for Afghan Refugees Shakeel Ahmad Safi, Chairman Red Crescent merged districts Imran Wazir, and representatives of NADRA, FIA and PDMA were also present on the occasion.

Later, the Governor also visited the shrine of renowned Pashto poet Hamza Baba Shinwari in Landi Kotal, where he offered Fateha and prayed for the country’s development, stability and lasting peace in the province. On the occasion, a devotee present at the shrine recited verses of Hamza Baba’s poetry to the Governor.

Governor Kundi said that the poetry of Hamza Baba carries deep meaning and significance, adding that such personalities are a source of pride and their teachings should be widely promoted.
