Governor Kundi announces reopening of KP CNG stations

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi has announced that CNG stations across the province would reopen from Thursday following successful negotiations with a federal committee over gas supply issues.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Wednesday alongside Leader of the Opposition in KP Assembly Dr Ibadullah and Finance Adviser Khaber Pakhtunkhwa Muzammil Aslam, the Governor said all political stakeholders in the province were united for the resolution of public issues.

He said the federal government had agreed to provide 35 MMCFD gas for the province, adding that uninterrupted gas supply would be ensured to CNG stations from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Governor Kundi said the province’s problems would be resolved through collective efforts and stressed that all political parties were on the same page regarding the protection of KP’s rights and public interests.

He said the matter had been taken up with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to strengthen the federation and ensure relief for the people of the province.

He added that the prime minister had also taken notice of the wheat supply issue and expressed hope that the matter would be resolved within the next couple of days.

Separately, Governor Kundi thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for constituting a committee to address the CNG closure issue in KP and welcomed the decision to restore 35 MMCFD gas supply for the province.

He termed the development a positive step towards addressing the legitimate concerns of the province and appreciated the coordination between the federal and provincial governments for resolving the issue.

The Governor also acknowledged the role of Adviser to the Prime Minister, Rana Sanaullah, and Federal Minister, Ali Pervaiz Malik in resolving the matter.

He further praised the unity shown by the provincial government and opposition parties, describing it as a positive development in the larger public interest.

Earlier, Governor Kundi led a jirga comprising representatives of the provincial government and opposition parties in a meeting with the committee formed by the prime minister to discuss the wheat transportation restrictions and CNG closure issue in KP.

The provincial delegation included Finance Adviser Muzammil Aslam, Opposition Leader Dr Ibadullah, the KP chief secretary and secretary energy, while officials from the Power Division, Petroleum Division, Sui Gas and other relevant departments also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the KP delegation termed the ban on wheat transportation from Punjab unconstitutional and against the interests of the people of the province. The participants also discussed hardships being faced by the public due to the closure of CNG stations in KP.
