Governor KP welcomes PM’s committee on CNG closure issue

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for constituting a committee to address the issue of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) closure in the province.

In a tweet on X, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi termed the move a positive step towards resolving the difficulties being faced by the people of the province due to prolonged CNG closures.

He said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was producing nearly 508 MMCFD of natural gas against its requirement of around 130 MMCFD, yet the people of the province continued to face unnecessary hardship.

The Governor said Article 158 of the Constitution of Pakistan clearly stated that the province producing natural gas had the first right and precedence over its usage, adding that the constitutional rights of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must be upheld.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also appreciated the support and unity shown by the provincial government and political parties on the issue.

He said all political stakeholders should rise above differences and speak with one voice on matters concerning the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the welfare of its people.
