LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2026) Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali has stressed that global peace can only be achieved through dialogue, terming it an urgent necessity for maintaining international stability.

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony titled “Peace for Humanity” organized by the Department of Political Science at Punjab University, here on Wednesday. The event was attended by senior analyst Salman Abid, Chairman Department of Political Science Prof Dr Rana Ijaz Ahmad, faculty members and students.

The Vice Chancellor said recent conflicts and attacks in various regions, including incidents involving the US and Iran, should have been avoided. He also referred to attacks on civilian infrastructure such as water reservoirs, hospitals and schools, saying such actions disregard ethical and humanitarian principles.

He added that ongoing conflicts were contributing to environmental challenges, including climate change and water-related issues, while disruption of key maritime routes like the Strait of Hormuz also creates difficulties for local populations.

Referring to the Palestine situation, he said Israel had been continuing oppression for years and urged students to critically examine how geopolitical objectives are achieved in such contexts. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in supporting ceasefire initiatives, stating that successful peace agreements would enhance the country’s global standing.

Senior analyst Salman Abid said the world was increasingly prioritizing defense systems over human development, while Prof Dr Rana Ijaz Ahmad noted that Pakistan was actively working for peace and the department would continue promoting awareness on national and international issues.
