Gilani secures approval for Multan-Lodhran dual carriageway project

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th Jun, 2026) Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has secured approval for the dualisation of the Multan-Lodhran Road, with funds for the project also released.

The approval was granted by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan following a request from the Senate chairman. The project will be financed through the Road Maintenance Account (RMA) Fund.

The 62-kilometre project is estimated to cost Rs4.6 billion and is expected to be completed within one year. Construction work is likely to begin next month.

As part of the scheme, 44.8 kilometres of the existing road will be raised to match the level of both carriageways, improving road safety and traffic flow.

The Multan-Lodhran Road has remained in poor condition for years, causing difficulties for commuters, transporters and residents.

The project is expected to reduce travel time, improve road safety and provide better transport facilities.

Expressing satisfaction over the approval, Gilani said another promise made to the people of Multan and Lodhran was being fulfilled.

He said the reconstruction and dualisation of the road would provide safer, faster and better travel facilities for the public. He added that addressing the long-standing problems of South Punjab through sustainable development remained one of his priorities and expressed confidence that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

The Senate chairman also reaffirmed his commitment to improving infrastructure and public services across South Punjab to support economic growth and improve the quality of life.
