ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th May, 2026) Chairman Senate of Pakistan, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, on Tuesday, paid rich tribute to the nursing community, paramedical staff, and all professionals associated with the healthcare sector.
Addressing a ceremony held in connection with International Nurses Day, he stated that education and health are among the sectors closest to his heart, emphasising that the provision of quality healthcare and education is indispensable for building a strong, developed, and prosperous Pakistan.
The Chairman of the Senate said that hospitals in Pakistan should be equipped with such high standards that citizens would no longer need to travel abroad for medical treatment.
He highlighted that the establishment of Mukhtiar Hospital in Multan was aimed at providing state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the public.
He remarked that the nursing profession serves as the backbone of the medical field, as nurses not only care for patients under the most challenging circumstances but also provide hope, courage, and confidence to their families.
He said that the services rendered by the nursing community are a great asset to humanity, and the entire nation salutes their sacrifices and tireless dedication.
Gilani said that modern reforms in the healthcare sector are the need of the hour and reaffirmed that the Senate of Pakistan remains committed to strengthening the public healthcare system and aligning it with contemporary global standards.
He expressed satisfaction over the signing of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council Bill 2026, which, he noted, would help raise the educational and professional standards of nursing in line with international benchmarks.
He further stated that telemedicine, artificial intelligence, and modern technologies have the potential to bring revolutionary changes to the healthcare sector. Stressing the importance of modern training for nurses and paramedical staff, he said that Pakistan’s healthcare system must be developed according to global
standards.

The Chairman of the Senate emphasised that providing the nursing community with a better working environment, equal opportunities, and broader avenues for professional growth is the responsibility of the state.
He observed that Pakistan’s trained workforce is highly valued around the world, which reflects the immense potential of Pakistani youth when provided with quality education and training at the local level.
He also described the establishment of Mukhtiar Sheikh Hospital in Multan as an important initiative aimed at ensuring better healthcare facilities for the public and stressed that similar modern and high-quality medical centers should be established across the country so that every citizen may have access to quality treatment at their doorstep.
He reiterated that quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen and called for collective efforts to improve hospital standards nationwide.
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani said that a healthy, strong, and prosperous Pakistan is a shared vision of all stakeholders, and achieving this objective requires joint efforts by the government, parliament, medical experts, the nursing community, and the public.
On the occasion of International Nurses Day, he once again paid tribute to the nursing community for their national services, spirit of sacrifice, and humanitarian contributions, stating that the nation will always remember and honor the dedication and sacrifices of these unsung heroes. He appreciated the initiative to acknowledge the services of nursing staff.
The ceremony was also addressed by Sardar Yasir Ilyas, Advisor to PM on Tourism and CEO of Maroof International Hospital, Haroon Naseer.
