ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that greater interaction between the parliaments, training academies, universities, and policy institutions of Pakistan and Bangladesh would help promote regional stability and sustainable development.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Executive Development Programme organised for a Bangladesh Civil Services delegation by the Civil Services academy and the National school of Public Policy, he stressed the need for institutionalised cooperation between the two countries in parliamentary affairs, civil service training, legislative research, digital governance, public policy, and leadership development.
He said the future of South Asia depends on constructive engagement, mutual respect, and stronger people-to-people ties.
Welcoming the Bangladeshi delegation, Gilani described the programme as an important initiative aimed at reviving institutional links and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries after more than five decades.
He said nations become stronger when institutions, professionals, and citizens remain connected through dialogue, cooperation, and shared learning.
The Chairman Senate appreciated the role of the Civil Services Academy and the National School of Public Policy in organising the programme and providing a platform for intellectual exchange and professional collaboration.
He said such initiatives help build trust, improve regional understanding, and create opportunities for long-term cooperation.
Referring to his recent interaction with the delegation during their visit to the Senate of Pakistan, he said the engagement reflected warmth and a genuine desire on both sides to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Gilani also welcomed the positive message conveyed by the Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament, particularly the proposal regarding the training of Bangladeshi parliamentary staff in Pakistan.

Highlighting his role as President of the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services and founding chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and knowledge-sharing mechanisms with Bangladesh.
He said Pakistan and Bangladesh are linked through shared history, cultural ties, faith, and strong human connections. He added that both countries increasingly recognize the importance of focusing on future opportunities instead of past differences.
Gilani said strong nations are built on strong institutions, ethical leadership, and public trust. He emphasized the key role of civil servants in implementing policies and maintaining institutional continuity.
Addressing the graduating officers, he said they were not only representatives of Bangladesh’s civil service but also ambassadors of cooperation, friendship, and regional harmony.
He added that in a deeply polarized global environment, programmes like the Executive Development Programme serve as bridges of trust and lasting friendship between nations.
The Chairman Senate expressed confidence that the relationships developed during the programme would further strengthen bilateral ties and open new avenues of cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He concluded by conveying his best wishes for the peace, progress, and prosperity of both countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to meaningful engagement and lasting friendship with Bangladesh.
