A weather advisory says a westerly weather system is likely to enter the upper parts of the country on June 30
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June 29th, 2026) Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday forecast a fresh spell of monsoon rains across much of the country from the first week of July, with widespread showers, thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall expected in several regions.
A weather advisory said that a westerly weather system is likely to enter the upper parts of the country on June 30, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are already affecting eastern and central Pakistan. Additional moisture from the Bay of Bengal is expected to reach the upper regions from July 2, strengthening monsoon activity.
Under the influence of the weather system, rain accompanied by windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated heavy downpours, is expected in various parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian Bala, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from July 1 to July 6.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, widespread rainfall with occasional heavy falls is forecast between July 1 and July 5 in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Nowshera, Charsadda, Karak, Tank, Lakki Marwat, Swabi, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Kurram, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu, North and South Waziristan, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.
The PMD said Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Faisalabad, Khushab, Sargodha, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Narowal are also expected to receive rain from July 1 to July 6.
Rainfall is also likely in Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Pakpattan, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Okara, Kasur, Noorpur Thal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh and Rajanpur from July 3 to July 5.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>In Gilgit-Baltistan, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from July 1 to July 5, while northern and northeastern Balochistan, including Zhob, Sherani, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Harnai, Sibi, Barkhan and Dera Bugti, is expected to receive rainfall from July 1 to July 4.
The department also forecast rain in parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Khairpur, Qambar Shahdadkot and Naushahro Feroze on July 3 and 4.
The PMD warned that strong winds and heavy rainfall could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, electricity poles and billboards.
It also cautioned that landslides may occur in vulnerable mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from July 1 to July 6. Flash flooding is also expected in local streams and nullahs of these regions, as well as hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan, between July 2 and July 5.
Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad from July 1 to July 4, the department added.
The PMD advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable areas during the forecast period and urged farmers to plan agricultural activities in line with the weather outlook. It also noted that the prevailing hot and humid conditions are likely to ease as the monsoon system becomes active.
