Free TPA injection for stroke patient available at ATHE: Dr Sajjad Afridi

ABBOTTABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Mar, 2026) Director, Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH), Dr. Sajjad Ahmed Afridi on Thursday said the administration has made the life-saving TPA injection available free of charge in the Emergency Department for stroke patients, a major relief for the people of Hazara.

The announcement was made during a meeting attended by Associate Director, Dr Daud Iqbal, Nursing Director, Mehtab Sikandar, Emergency Incharge, Dr Junaid Sarwar Malik, Head of Department (HoD), Administration, Dr. Khurram, Head of Pharmacy, Asif Nawaz and heads of other departments.

Dr Sajjad speaking on the occasion said, the ATH the injection, which is crucial for the timely treatment of stroke patients, would now be provided immediately in the emergency department to help save lives and reduce the risk of permanent disability.

He said the basic mission of the institution is to provide modern and quality healthcare facilities to the people of Hazara

to facilitate the patients and avoid travel to other cities for treatment.

He said although the TPA injection was very expensive, the hospital administration has decided to provide it free of charge to ensure timely treatment for all.

Dr. Sajjad Ahmed also appreciated the efforts of the pharmacy department for making the life-saving medicine available.

He further informed that a six-bed Stroke and Acute Chest Pain Unit has been established in the emergency department for the immediate treatment of stroke and heart attack patients. The unit is equipped with modern monitors and other medical facilities to provide prompt medical care.

Dr Afridi reaffirmed that more modern health facilities and projects would be introduced in the future to further improve medical services at Ayub Teaching Hospital.
