MIRPUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) Senior Superintendent of Police Khurram Iqbal on Wednesday dismissed four police officials, including a sub-inspector and three constables, from service under the Efficiency and Discipline Act 1992 for allegedly misusing authority and subjecting a local citizen to violence.
According to an official order issued by the SSP office, the dismissed officials included Sub-Inspector Shabbir Ahmed, Constable Imran Khan, Constable Ghulam Abbas and Constable Zubair Ahmed, who were posted at Police Station Thothal, Mirpur.
The order stated that the officials had been dismissed from service with effect from May 13, 2026, before noon, under Section (B) of the E&D Act, 1992.
SSP Khurram Iqbal further directed the line officer to collect all official records and items issued to the dismissed personnel and submit a no-objection certificate (NOC) report to his office.
According to the official order, a video went viral on social media on the night of May 12 showing a police vehicle chasing a white car in Sector F/2 of Mirpur city, within the jurisdiction of City Police Station Mirpur.
The video allegedly showed the car colliding with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction before stopping.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Police personnel then got out of the official vehicle, forcibly pulled a man out of the car and assaulted him publicly.
Following an immediate inquiry, authorities identified the police vehicle as belonging to Police Station Thothal, with the above-mentioned officials on board.
The dismissal order stated that the officers failed to provide any satisfactory explanation during an oral inquiry conducted by the SSP.
The order further noted that even if the occupants of the car had been wanted in a criminal case, it was the duty of police officials to proceed through lawful means.
It added that the actions of the officials — including chasing the vehicle, dragging the individual out of the car and allegedly beating him in public — amounted to exceeding their authority and damaging the reputation of the police department.
The SSP office stated that the conduct of the officials constituted abuse of authority, negligence in duty and departmental misconduct, warranting dismissal from service.
