Foreign nationals security remains key priority as SPU Punjab integrates AI-based monitoring system, DIG Cheema Says

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Jul, 2026) DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU) Punjab Tayyab Hafeez Cheema Sunday said ensuring security of foreign nationals, high-risk individuals, and sensitive infrastructure projects remains the department’s top priority, adding that SPU has provided security cover to over 153,000 guests by utilizing advanced technology, AI-based surveillance, trackers, real-time monitoring systems and dedicated control rooms.

While appearing on a special ptv program, DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU) Punjab Tayyab Hafeez Cheema highlighted the department’s mission and operational framework, stating that SPU was established to provide dedicated security to foreign nationals, high-risk individuals and sensitive infrastructure projects, including CPEC-related initiatives, through specialized training, professional expertise and modern security solutions.

He said SPU personnel receive specialized training to deal with complex security challenges, while digitalized systems, real-time monitoring, tracking technology and centralized control rooms are being utilized for continuous security oversight.

Cheema added that round-the-clock monitoring and technology-based solutions have improved coordination, response time and operational efficiency in protecting foreign guests and important projects.

DIG Cheema further emphasized the importance of enhancing IT literacy among law enforcement personnel by organizing training programs and providing necessary resources to improve their technical skills.

He said modern policing requires continuous capacity building, digital awareness and effective use of technology to meet emerging security challenges.

He appreciated government initiatives aimed at strengthening law enforcement capabilities through modern technology, professional training, and improved security infrastructure.

Cheema said SPU Punjab remains committed to safeguarding foreign nationals, CPEC projects and other sensitive installations by combining trained manpower with advanced digital tools to ensure effective security arrangements.

In his concluding remarks, DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU) Punjab Tayyab Hafeez Cheema said the department is focusing on capacity-building programs, including specialized training with other countries and improvement of communication skills among officials to enhance professional capabilities.

He added that government support and continuous efforts are strengthening the department’s performance, while SPU remains active round the clock to ensure effective security arrangements for foreign nationals, CPEC projects and other sensitive installations.
