MIRPUR (AJK) , (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 11th Mar, 2026) The Food Authority launched a day-long crackdown on food outlets accused of selling adulterated and unhygienic products, imposing fines totaling Rs178,000 on several businesses, the officials said on Wednesday.
The action was carried out by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Food Authority as part of an intensified campaign ordered by the AJK government to curb the sale of substandard food items and safeguard public health, they added.
According to officials, inspection teams targeted milk shops, samosa and pakora stalls, bakeries and general stores in the suburban Bin Khurman area of the city.
The operation was led by Deputy Director Food, Qazi Ijaz Ahmed, accompanied by Food Controller Adnan Naqvi, Food Technologist Shoaib Khurshid, and Assistant Food Safety Officer Asif Riaz.
During the inspections, the authorities found violations including the sale of poor-quality milk and inadequate cleanliness and sanitation arrangements at several outlets.
The inspectors also examined the cooking oil used for preparing Iftar food items using a mobile food testing laboratory on the spot.
