Ferry services, deep sea fishing to boost economy: Minister

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Thursday emphasized that new initiatives in ferry services and deep-sea fishing are set to strengthen Pakistan’s economy.

Speaking to a private news channel, the minister said that the government has launched ferry services and issued licenses for deep-sea fishing as part of efforts to boost economic activity. He noted that the deep-sea fishing project is expected to significantly enhance Pakistan’s exports.

Addressing concerns about port capacity, he assured that Pakistani ports currently have sufficient capacity to handle increased operational pressure. He also highlighted that trans-shipment facilities have been introduced to promote regional trade and business activity.

Commenting on Gwadar, the minister said that Gwadar Port would play a vital role in facilitating trade for Central Asian states and other countries, positioning Pakistan as a key hub in regional connectivity.
