Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Thursday directed the authorities to accelerate the implementation of Pakistan's local vaccine production project and expedite the complete digitisation of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) as part of broader health sector reforms

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2026) Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Thursday directed the authorities to accelerate the implementation of Pakistan's local vaccine production project and expedite the complete digitisation of the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC) as part of broader health sector reforms.

The directives came during a high-level meeting chaired by the minister, which was attended by Federal Secretary Health, the Chief Executive Officer of Health, the Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), and representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

During the meeting, the minister stressed that the pace of work on the local vaccine production project should be further accelerated, directing the relevant authorities to complete all regulatory, legal and technical requirements within the stipulated timeline.

He said Pakistan must move swiftly towards self-sufficiency in vaccine production to strengthen national health security and reduce reliance on imports.

Highlighting the importance of nursing reforms, Mustafa Kamal said comprehensive reforms in the nursing sector were the need of the hour. He directed that the Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council be fully digitised and developed on modern lines in accordance with international standards.

The minister also instructed the authorities to take effective measures to meet the country's growing demand for qualified nursing professionals by strengthening nursing education and regulatory systems.

Representatives of the Asian Development Bank reaffirmed their commitment to extending full cooperation to the Government of Pakistan and pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the country's health sector.

Mustafa Kamal appreciated the ADB's continued partnership and support for Pakistan's health sector reforms, particularly in vaccine production and capacity-building initiatives.
