CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th May, 2026) The family of an elderly woman and her 13-year-old granddaughter from Chiniot has alleged that both have remained in the illegal custody of police in Nawabshah for the past 70 days, demanding their immediate release and judicial intervention.
Addressing a press conference at the District Press Club Chiniot on Monday, advocate Owais Akram, counsel for the affected family, claimed that the woman and child were allegedly being targeted due to statements made by Falak Sher — the elderly woman’s son-in-law and father of the minor girl — against a government official and a woman in Sindh. He alleged that the grandmother and granddaughter were being punished in retaliation.
According to the family, the two were travelling to Chiniot on March 14 and 15 when police personnel allegedly stopped their coach near Shaheed Benazirabad Bridge at around 1 a.

The lawyer further claimed that on May 6, a senior police officer acknowledged before the court that the woman and child were in police custody, while the family expressed concern over repeated adjournments in the case. Relatives appealed to the Chief Minister of Sindh and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to ensure the recovery and release of the elderly woman and the minor girl from what they described as unlawful detention.
