KARACHI:
Police have exposed a purported Rs2.5 million-robbery in the New Karachi Industrial Area as a staged incident, officials said, adding that the complainant fabricated the story to avoid repayment of a debt. According to District Central SSP Dr Imran, the complainant, Saad Hassan, admitted during interrogation that he had orchestrated the fake robbery to avoid paying Rs2.5 million owed to his employer and his brother-in-law. On March 10, Saad informed police that four armed men riding two motorcycles had intercepted him close to Ittihad Enterprises at Sitara Park, and snatched Rs2.5 million in cash before fleeing. Acting on the complaint, the New Karachi Industrial Area police registered the FIR under Sections 397 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation. During the probe, police examined the alleged crime scene and reviewed various aspects of the reported robbery. The investigation subsequently revealed that the claim was false and the incident had been fabricated. SSP Dr Imran said the complainant later confessed that he had dropped his motorcycle near Sitara Park to create the impression of a robbery and had deliberately provided false information to police. Police said that the case was resolved within 48 hours through professional investigation, establishing that no such robbery had taken place.
