Expired drinks, hazardous oil destroyed during food safety operation in Dera

Dera Ismail Khan, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Authorities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority carried out an inspection operation across various hotels, pizza outlets, restaurants and burger points in Dera Ismail Khan under the supervision of Assistant Director Dr Wasef Khan.

During the operation, inspection teams conducted detailed checks of water quality, salt, cleanliness standards, raw materials and cooking oil being used at food outlets. Hundreds of litres of substandard and hazardous cooking oil, along with expired cold drinks, were confiscated and destroyed on the spot.

The teams also imposed heavy fines on several food businesses over the absence of mandatory medical certificates for workers. Legal action was initiated against outlets found to maintain poor hygiene and sanitation conditions.

In addition, expired food licences of several businesses were renewed on the spot to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and to facilitate uninterrupted operations.

Officials said the crackdown was part of ongoing efforts to ensure the provision of safe, hygienic and quality food to the public ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
