The 66-year-old royal was taken into custody over allegations that he shared confidential government documents with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade representative

LONDON: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 20th, 2026) Prince Andrew, younger brother of King Charles III, has been released following his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office, police confirmed, with investigations still ongoing.

The 66-year-old royal was taken into custody over allegations that he shared confidential government documents with the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as a UK trade representative. After several hours of questioning on Thursday, Prince Andrew was released under the condition that inquiries would continue.

Thames Valley Police had earlier stated that the arrest does not imply guilt but reflects that there was sufficient evidence to warrant questioning as part of an ongoing investigation.

King Charles III issued a statement emphasizing that the legal process must take its course and confirmed that the royal family would cooperate fully with authorities.

Prince Andrew, who had stepped back from official royal duties due to his previous links with Epstein, has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

While recent US disclosures related to Epstein included references to him, police clarified that the current probe is focused solely on alleged misuse of public office and is not connected to any sexual misconduct allegations.

Under the UK law, if found guilty of misconduct in public office, Prince Andrew could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. The investigation, however, is still underway.
