MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th May, 2026) A review meeting regarding the current cotton situation was held at the Commissioner office Multan under the chairmanship of Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Iftikhar Ali Sahoo.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Multan Aamir Karim Khan, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Asif Ali, Special Secretary Agriculture South Punjab Sarfraz Hussain Magsi, Deputy Commissioner Multan Nauman Siddiqui, Director Generals of the Agriculture department Punjab Abdul Hameed and Dr. Aamir Rasool, officers of the Irrigation department, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Bandesha, Asif Majeed, Khalid Mahmood Khokhar, Muhammad Ilyas and other stakeholders. Commissioner DG Khan Chaudhry Ashfaq Ahmed and Deputy Commissioners of the relevant districts also participated online.
During the briefing, Secretary Agriculture Punjab was informed that a target of cotton cultivation over 775,000 acres set for Multan division, of which 81 percent has so far been achieved.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Furthermore, in DG Khan Division, a target of cotton cultivation over 425,000 acres had set and 93 percent of the target has already been achieved.
Addressing the meeting, Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo stated that enhanced cotton production was the guarantee of farmers’ prosperity. He said that the cooperation of divisional and district administrations in cotton cultivation efforts was commendable.
He directed the field formations to utilize their best professional capabilities in guiding farmers to ensure the achievement of production targets.
Iftikhar Ali Sahoo further stated that the availability of fertilizers at officially fixed prices in markets was being ensured, while indiscriminate action against those involved in the adulteration of agricultural pesticides was continuing. He added that, in consultation with experts and keeping in view the prevailing weather conditions, a cotton advisory would be issued.
