HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th May, 2026) Renowned poetess Maryam Majidi passed away on Monday.
She was the daughter of the famous revolutionary Sindhi poet Muhammad Khan Majidi.
She was born on June 15, 1946 (1943 in school records) in village Qaiser Khan Jatoi, Jhoke Sharif taluka, Mirpur Bathoro, district Sajawal.
Her identity remains as a poet and academician.
After going to Maryam Primary School, she passed the first three grades at Dari Boys Primary School and the eighth grade of secondary education at Government Chandia High School.
SV training was done by Women's Training College, Hyderabad in 1961-62.
She passed Boys' College, Thatta in 1970 as a Matric private candidate.
She did his B.Ed in 1973 from Old Campus Sindh University, Hyderabad and MA in Sindhi Literature from Sindh University, Jamshoro in 1975.
She did M.Ed in 1984 Old Campus Sindh University Hyderabad.
Maryam Majidi started her career in September 1960 as a primary teacher at Government Girls Primary School, Thatta.
In 1980, after being promoted as HST, she was posted in Girls' middle School, Sajawal.
She also worked as a Headmistress in the same school.
In 1991, she served as Sub-Divisional Officer, Education, Sajawal and then Deputy DEO Secondary Thatto, EDO Sajawal, Mirpursakro and DEO (Primary) Thatto for various periods.

Maryam Majidi started writing in 1975.
Her first poem was published in Barsaat, a magazine published in Karachi at that time.
Maryam also wrote some articles, columns and stories, which were published in Daily Sobh and Daily Jago newspapers.
But the main focus of her writing remained poetry, in which she created her own identity.
Maryam Majidi's first collection of poems "Sarum Dikum Dikum" was published in 1986, which received three awards for best poetry 1- by Sindhi Literary Society, 2- Mirza Qalich Beg Award at the centenary celebration of Mirza Qalich Beg, and 3. Poetry by Sindhology, which is the best book.
Her other poetry collection, "Nirana e Neen" was published in 2012.
In the silver jubilee ceremony of the magazine 'New Life', she was given the best poet award by the renowned poet Ahmed Faraz.
Along with other awards, in 2016, she received the 'Hari Dilgir Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award' by the Sindhi Literary Society.
Maryam Majidi also wrote articles and essays on various books
