 PMD forecasts expected Shawwal moon dates

Pakistan Meteorological Department says Shawwal moon likely on March 20, Eidul Fitr expected on March 21

ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-Feb 24th, 2026) The expected dates of upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr in Pakistan have emerged following the forecast of Pakistan Meteorological Department.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast that the Shawwal crescent is unlikely to be sighted on March 19, indicating that Eidul Fitr is expected to fall on March 21.

According to the Met Office, astronomical calculations suggest that the Shawwal moon will most likely be visible on March 20, paving the way for the celebration of Eid the following day.

Ramadan in Pakistan commenced on February 19 after the crescent was sighted on the 29th of Sha’ban. The final announcement regarding moon sighting, however, will be made by the relevant authorities following official verification.
